ACTIV TRIALS: MORE OPTIONS, FEWER COMPLICATIONS

Doctor advising a patient

While vaccines are reducing COVID-19 cases and admissions to the hospital across the country, safe and effective treatments are essential to changing outcomes for your patients who test positive for COVID-19. The National Institutes of Health is meeting this challenge with the Accelerating COVID-19 Therapeutic Interventions and Vaccines (ACTIV) public-private partnership, developed to prioritize and speed development of the most promising treatments and vaccines. ACTIV is currently recruiting participants to explore potential new treatment options for:

COVID-19 patients in the hospital

Patients with mild to moderate symptoms

ACTIV TRIALS: MORE OPTIONS, FEWER COMPLICATIONS

Doctor consulting with patient

ACTIV clinical trials may help your patients recover faster and avoid or reduce a hospital stay. These trials may offer options to help:

  • Prevent clotting events and improve outcomes with COVID-19 infection
  • Prevent extrapulmonary complications and respiratory dysfunction
  • Reduce the duration of COVID-19 symptoms
  • Reduce life-threatening cardiovascular or pulmonary complications

ACTIV CLINICAL TRIAL DESIGN

ACTIV trials use a platform design, consisting of a single master protocol for each trial arm. This design evaluates multiple therapeutic interventions simultaneously. This allows for new treatments to be considered quickly and for less effective treatments to be removed from the trial arm, while meeting the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s standards for research design and conduct.
