ACTIV-3B: THERAPEUTICS FOR SEVERELY ILL INPATIENTS WITH COVID-19 (TESICO)
This study tests the use of standard treatments plus two investigational drugs to help people in the hospital recover from severe COVID-19 breathing problems.

WHAT IS THIS STUDY ABOUT?
Some people with COVID-19 have serious problems like trouble breathing. ACTIV-3b TESICO is studying several potential new medicines for adults in the hospital with COVID-19 who need treatment with high levels of oxygen or other breathing support. This study will help scientists answer important questions, including:
- Can these investigational drugs help seriously ill patients recover faster from COVID-19?
- Are these study treatments safe for patients with COVID-19 who have severe breathing problems?
If you join this study, you will get one or both of the study drugs or a placebo (salt water that has no effect). All study participants will also get the usual care for COVID-19. You will be asked to take part in this study for 180 days. We will ask you to participate in up to seven study visits. Some of these visits will be while you are still in the hospital and some will be done by phone. There are no in-person visits required after you leave the hospital.
WHO CAN JOIN THIS STUDY?
If you tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 2 weeks and are in hospital, this study may be for you. Clinical trials testing COVID-19 treatments need people from diverse backgrounds. This will help scientists find treatments that are safe and work for more people. Each person who takes part in the ACTIV-3b TESICO study will meet specific criteria, including:

At least 18 years old

Currently in the hospital and tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 14 days

Critically ill, requiring oxygen or other breathing support

ANSWERS TO OTHER QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE

A clinical research study helps experts find treatments that are safe and effective. It is important that these studies include people from diverse backgrounds. This helps researchers develop and test new treatments that will work for more people.
The placebo looks like the study medication but does not have any active ingredients in it. Researchers compare how people react to both placebos and medications to learn if the medication is safe and helps people recovery more quickly. If you join this study, you will get the usual care for COVID-19.
Yes. Taking part in this clinical trial is voluntary; it is your choice. You can change your mind at any time and leave the study.
